- Social studies presentations - Belfasty Day - Assignments that need to be finished over the break Looking back: We had a jam packed week full of trying to complete projects and ending with the ever popular Belfasty day. This week students finished their social studies projects and presented them to the class. I was extremely impressed by the research that was done, the quality of the presentations and the creativity used when deciding how to present their information. We also spent a lot of time trying to finish up projects before the break. We are going to start fresh in January with new units to explore so please check in with your child to see what projects they need to complete over the break. These include: - Math: Aquarium project - LA: Newspaper article of their choice - Science: Star log part three (journal of life on new planet. Document found in google docs for reference. I hope you all of a wonderful and relaxing break. School begins again on January 8th! Ask Me About:

- Rehearsals - Projects Looking back: This week was a busy one! This week we had play rehearsals every afternoon to help us prepare and get ready for the play next week. In the mornings students had time to work on their social projects with their group members. Students finished their research and next week will begin to create a way to represent the culture they started through art. Students also had time to work on their science and math projects that will be due in the up coming weeks before the winter break. On the right side of the blog the dates for projects to be handed in will be posted. Finally, The play is next week on the 13th and 14th. Please note that the performances are only evening ones. If you cannot make an evening performance, you are welcome to come to the dress rehearsal on Tuesday the 12th at 1:00pm. Also, the WE market will be taking place the evening of the play on the 13th and 14th and then again after school on the 18th. Ask Me About:
- Aquarium project - How to multiply a whole number and a decimal - Play rehearsals Looking Back: Language Arts: - The students have been working hard this week on their individual news paper articles. Students have been working on brainstorming and using a template to organize their thoughts before they begin writing. I am impressed by the level of dedication this class has shown towards their assignments and it is present in the quality of their work. All of the students are now able to use paragraphs when writing and they are beginning to understand how to organize the paragraphs in a way that makes sense to their reader. Math: - This week in math we continued on with our aquarium project but we also looked at how to multiply a whole number by a decimal. We looked at this visually first using base tens blocks and 10x10 grids and then we looked at how we can removed the decimal, multiply the numbers, and put the decimal back in at the end. This is a concept we will continue to practice before the Winter Break. Science: - All students have now begun part two of their science project. The majority of this part is due this Wednesday. Please check in with your child to be sure they have been spending some time working on this assignment of the last couple weeks. Their goal is to pick and research 5 things in space that they might encounter on their way to the new planet they are going to. This could be asteroids, stars, planets, nebulae, satellites etc. They need to have an image of the each of the 5 they have chosen and a short 3-5 sentence paragraph explaining what it is. Social - This week students continue to work in their small groups to understand the many cultures that have made Canada what it is. Over the next three weeks students will create a way to represent the culture they are studying, along with some stories of that culture, through various fine art mediums. This could be through sound, painting, choral speech, puppetry and more. Finally, Reminder that the grade 3-6 students are putting on a play called "Aesop's Foibles" The play will be running December 13 and 14th in the evening. Information about tickets can be found on the school website. |
