Ask Me About…
Math: - This week in math we continued to look at strategies to solve two digit by one digit multiplication (45X3). We looked at how to pull the numbers apart to multiply smaller numbers and we looked at a common algorithm used to solve multiplication problems. Science: - This week in science we began to finish our graph art project based on the population of birds in North America. These beautiful pieces of art will be displayed on Tuesday February 28th at our artist in residency showcase. Language Arts: - This week in language arts we continued to create poetry books. Each student has created between 5 and 10 original poems with accompanying art pieces. The books must be completed by Wednesday March 1st. On the same Wednesday we will be having our poetry wrap up with our delayed Poet-Tea. Social Studies: - In social studies this week, we continued to work on our time line projects. Groups participated in a feedback session where their peers were able to watch and give constructive feedback on their pieces. The living timeline museum will be presented on Thursday March 2nd from 1:00-3:00pm. Parents are welcome to attend. The students will be performing their poems at a Poet-Tea cafe on Wednesday afternoon. Social Studies: - In social studies this week, we continued to work on our time line projects. Subject Specifics Science: - This week in science we learned about and discussed leaf arrangements and branching patterns on trees. We visual journaled our notes in order to have a visual image to compare the different types of arrangements and patterns. We have also looked at the nutrient cycle, photosynthesis, levels of the forest, and leaf shapes and margins. Language Arts: - This week in language arts each student presented a lesson on a style of poetry or a poetic device to the class. We looked at alliteration, couplets, free verse, and ode. Social Studies: - We have begun a new project in social studies and all grade 5/6 classes are working collaboratively. We are looking at the history of Canada and how events in our past led to the creation of the Country and affected how we live today.
