Ask Me About…
Math: This week in math we finished our "The Aliens Stole My Clothes" math problem and had a gallery walk. Students showed their outfits and how they spent their $200.00 to their peers and received feedback on their projects. Each student then used the feedback they were given to make improvements to their projects. I recommend that all students continue to practice understanding decimals at home. Mathletics is a great place to practice these concepts. Science: This week in science we continued to work on our science questions. PLEASE NOTE: Science projects are due Tuesday this week. Please check with your child to see if they need to work on their project this weekend. Criteria for the project are on googledocs. for them to access. Language Arts: This week in Language Arts we are continuing to work on our personal articles. Students have been reminded of the criteria for the project and are now working on editing and preparing to publish their articles in the class newspaper. Mouse Guard: This week we began a new Role Playing Game called "Mouse Guard". This week we started by creating characters, what they look like, what their role in society is, where they are from, and who their family and friends are. We will be using these new characters to explore some of our upcoming social and science topics. We are so excited to see what we can learn from our new mice characters. Math: This week in math we learned that overnight aliens came and took all of our clothes leaving us with only our pjs! They were kind enough however to reimburse us with $200.00 that we could use to buy a new outift for school the next day. Students were asked to research clothing they would like to buy and create a presentation of their new outfit, the cost of each piece, how much they spent, and how much they had left over. The rules were: You have to come to school fully clothed, you need to show your math, and you cannot go over the budget of $200.00. The students will be presenting their outfits on Tuesday December 6 as part of a gallery walk. Science: This week in science we continued to work on our science questions. We are learning to go deeper with our research and to look for answers to questions that aren't "googleable". By pushing our thinking and asking bigger questions we are able to think more deeply and critically about what we are learning. Language Arts: This week in Language Arts we are working on furthering our article writing skills. This week each student chose a topic to write about in hopes of showing the rest of the class the importance of the topic or helping them to learn something new. We have a wide range of topics now which is very exciting. We have students researching some of the following topics: - The fashion of the 1920s - The history of the Star Wars Francise - Women in Renaisance Art - Child rights and Child soilders - Animal and environmental issues The class is learning to find valueable information, checking their sources against at least two other sources to be sure the information they have gathered is correct. We are also learning how important brainstorming is to sort through our ideas and information. At the end of this project students will publish their article in the class paper "The Room 6 Times".
