Math: - This week in math we continued to practice two digit by one digit multiplication problems. We began to explore 2 digit and three digit by two digit. We also started to explore area and measurement. Science: - This week in science we began a new project called "Belfast Beautification". The students were assigned the task of creating a forested area somewhere on the school grounds. They needed to think about the types of trees they are using, the animals they want to attract and how the students of the school would use the space. Each group needed to research the plants and materials they needed to be sure they would fit into the space as well as making sure it would fit into their assigned budget. This week the students were in the planning of technical design phase. In the coming weeks the students will begin to build 3D models of their design. Language Arts: - This week in language arts we finished our poetry unit by handing in all of our poetry books. If students have not handed them in yet they MUST be in on Monday. Social Studies: - In social studies this week, we completed our living museum pieces and had a successful showing of our learning for the school. Each group worked hard to find information on their topic and relating it in a way that was easy to understand. Words of the Week: - Perseverance - Budget - Area Our Brains: This week we explored what our brains to when we make mistakes. We discovered that when we make mistakes our brain "lights up" as synapses begin firing. It is at this point in time that our brains are most receptive to learning. In these moments our brains can grow substantially! We have been discussing the importance of mistakes and that when we make mistakes we have a choice to make. We can have a fixed mindset and say "I can't do this, I'm not good enough" or we can have a growth mindset and say "I am glad I made this mistake so I can learn. I will keep trying; I may not have it yet but I will soon". This has created a new perspective on our learning and the mistakes we make! https://www.youcubed.org/think-it-up/believe-brain-operates-differently/
