- PATs - National Aboriginal Day - Summer Fest - Genius hour presentations Subject Specifics: This week the grade 6 students wrote their PATs in math, science, social and reading comprehension. We also had our human sexuality unit this week for both grade 5 and grade 6, ask your students about what they learned. During the rest of our time this week we continued presenting our genius hour projects and we put the finishing touches on our final project for the year. Ask Me About:
- Genius Hour - Garage Band Poetry - Animals in French Subject Specifics: This week the grade 6 students worked hard to review and prep for their PAT exams that are next week. The students wrote practices tests from the website Quest A+ which can be found under our PAT tab of the classroom website. The grade 5 students worked on their Genius Hour Projects which we began to present this week. Students also began a year end project where they had to create their own song and lyrics about their school year on Garage Band. These will be presented on the last day of classes. Ask Me About:
Math: - We have broken all of the 5/6 classes into smaller math groups to address specific needs for each student. Please check in with your child to see what they have been learning in math. Next week will be our last week of math groups Science: - This week in science we looked at foot prints and what we can understand about a person just by looking at the foot prints they leave behind. We looked at analyzing tread and pressure points. Language Arts: - This week in Language Arts we have continued to prepare for the reading comprehension PAT by doing practice PATs as a class. We have discussed how to read an excerpt and how to read a multiple choice question. We have also discussed strategies for answering a multiple choice answer test. Social Studies: - This week in social studies students presented their final social studies project on two different types of government. The work that students did was incredible and well thought out. Each group worked hard to portray their two countries and governments accurately and in an interesting way. Well done to all! We also created art using our fingerprints as characters or objects in our artwork Language Arts: - This week in Language Arts we have been focusing on reading comprehension. We started the week by each picking an article and then sharing what we read and understood with a partner. We also read an opinion based article on self-driving cars and then had a full group discussion about it. During this discussion we practiced voicing our opinions in a thoughtful way and turn taking. We also have been working on our understanding of other perspectives and how they can impact our own perspective Social Studies: - This week in social studies students continued to work on their compare and contrast of two forms of government.
